This might be silly or irrelevant in nature, but I’ve decided to officially announce a restructure for this blog. In addition to posting about 1/16th of the amount of times I want to (I really do think about blogging every single day!), the winds have swayed the overall vision I had for this blog in a completely different direction than what I originally thought, and I have officially decided to follow the breeze.
Beginning this blog, I wanted to turn it into a cutesy life-blog entailing my adventures, DIY projects, Susie Homemaker recipes and funny quips about life in New York– basically a less-popular version of what Cupcakes and Cashmere is to LA. Well let’s get one thing straight, as much as I adore Emily and the amazing branding she has made for herself (props, sister!), I will never have a closet/kitchen/life as put together as she. And as for her writing prose, she basically coined the phrase “short and sweet” with her clean and perfect writing technique. I, on the other hand, have the tendency to go on-and-on-and-on with my stories AND let us remember work a customer service oriented job; while I really do love smiling all day and formally interacting with people for a living, when I get home at night, all I really want to be able to do is crack open a Bud Light and say the f-word I’m almost positive Emily has never even heard a derogatory word (or maybe even slang?) in her life, so I think that is where our blog parallels unfortunately part ways.
Like I was saying… I’ve come to find a lot about myself when I moved to New York. First off, blogging about my trips to the opera, fancy balls (hah, balls) I’ve attended and cute dinners I’ve prepared for my boyfriend were not going to fly: remember, I work retail (read: have little to no disposable income) and am perpetually single. But secondly, I don’t even want to show you a step-by-step manual of how to sew a strap back onto my leather bustier, I want to make you f*cking laugh. I want to be April Ludgate, Liz Lemon and Barney Stinson. I want to tell jokes like Kathy Griffin, Will Ferrell and Ellen DeGeneres. I want to write like Lena Dunham, Mindy Kaling and Woody Allen. I want to make you f*cking laugh your asses off.
As I’m just beginning this new adventure, I can’t promise any real consistency to you. I can’t in fact promise that one word of anything I write is going to be as funny as it is in my brain. But, this is something I’m trying out, and I just thought it would be fair to let you know. With that, any comments (good or bad) on the things I write would be greatly appreciated, as I’m trying to figure out whether I’m actually funny to other people, or it’s all in my head (which it usually is). :)
Okay, bye!
